Chinsegut Conservation Center

Chinsegut Conservation Center is funded and operated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Chinsegut is unlike any other property managed by the commission as its primary role is to provide environmental and conservation education in addition to outdoor skills training.

May’s Prairie, a seasonal wetland, is the central focal point of the property with year-round opportunities to view wading birds, frogs and an occasional otter. Surrounding May’s Prairie are mixed hardwood and pine forests. Guided hikes are offered monthly, guided night hikes are offered four times a year.

Chinsegut has operated its education center for several decades in Brooksville, FL and continues to grow through volunteer support, community partners and the introduction of new learning opportunities. Most programs are open to the public to attend at no charge. Our educators are top notch and passionate about their subjects.

As years pass at Chinsegut new features are added to keep the facility a great place to bring family and friends to recreate. A 20 lane “Archery Woods Walk” is the newest addition to the property. The range is open to archers Saturdays 8:00am -2:00pm at no charge.

For nature lovers, Chinsegut offers over five miles of trails to hike. Wildlife is abundant and the variety is continuing to grow as we have recently adopted more active land management practices. Come learn about our Florida environments and wildlife or stop in to learn a new skill. Chinsegut offers experiences for all ages. Check out our calendar for programs and hikes.
