Magnificently transformed by Friends and grant funds, Chinsegut Hill Retreat is gaining traction as a sought-after event venue and unique lodging destination. On the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, and brimming with antebellum charm, the sprawling estate welcomes visitors to discover its living history.
Whether for picture-perfect weddings, family reunions, artistic, spiritual or corporate retreats, hosted receptions or guided tours, the Hill is a perfect fit.
In 2013, a $1.5 million grant from the Florida Department of State Division of Historical Resources, afforded the Friends of Chinsegut Hill means to make numerous capital repairs and improvements to the Manor house. The renovation is now complete and the freshly-splendid Manor, with its two-story wrap around verandas and structural authenticity regains its role as the crown jewel of the 115 acre estate.
Tucked among shaded groves are seven comfortable air conditioned cottages, each with four bedrooms, a kitchen and shared living area. Other facilities throughout the estate include a dining hall and a conference center. Massive Spanish Moss-draped oaks thought to be older than the 165 year old estate mix with gardens and sweeping views to create a sense of grace and timelessness far-removed from the relentless pace of modern society.
No detail was spared in the Manor’s décor; artifacts by the thousands hold pride of place throughout. From artwork to furniture and fixtures to photographs and correspondence, stories of the estate’s past come alive as told by its Friends of Chinsegut Hill curators. Established in 2008, the non-profit Friends of Chinsegut Hill organization’s mission is to “preserve and sustain the historical, cultural, environmental and educational center pertaining to the home site and property of Chinsegut Hill.” So, for those who seek a fascinating historical journey or a one-of-a-kind group encounter lodging destination, Chinsegut Hill Retreat warmly awaits.
