On Florida's Adventure Coast, paddling adventures are satisfying for novice to expert. For taking to the low seas, safety and planning are the keys to your best adventure.

Wear a personal flotation device (PFD). Ensure your PFD is the proper type and in good condition. Check out this short video by Paul Kuthe for Paddling.com.

Wear bright colors, white light-shining flashlights and whistles for visibility and sound.

Check the weather forecast and tides if planning a coastal paddle trip.

Consider your route. Factor in current; paddling with the current is entirely different than paddling against it. Arrange for a pick-up to carry yourself, your companions and your vessels if going one-way. Where are your keys and dry clothes? Shuttling can be easy if well-planned.

Wildlife will likely be your traveling companion. Remember it is their house you are visiting; do not approach wildlife or leave trash behind.
